英語の構文#7-It構文その7

take it granted that ...   …であるのは当然だと思う

• I took it for granted that the Shinkansen would arrive at 3 o'clock.

訳)新幹線が3時に到着するのは当たり前だと思っていた。

「take A for B   AをBと思い込む」の目的語をit,Bをgrantedに置き換えたもの。

似た構文として次のものがある

see (to it) that ...   ...するよう気をつける

• I will see that my work is donw well.

訳)仕事がちゃんと完成するよう気をつけます。

また「see that S+V～　～だということがわかる」という意もある。

make (it) sure/certain that  ...    確実に/必ず...する

• Please make sure that this letter is mailed today.

訳)今日確実にこの手紙を出してね。

that節の中では未来を表す場合にも現在形を用いる。

CF)make sureの類義表現として

make sure to ...   必ず…する

• I make sure not to eat chocolate everyday.

訳)私は毎日チョコレートを食べないようにしている。

to以下には必ず動詞の原形がくる。

make sure of ...   …を確認する

• I want to make sure of the time.

訳)時間を確認したいです。

of以下には名詞や代名詞がくる。
