It doesn't matter if … …するかどうかは問題でない
- It doesn't matter if you are late.
訳)遅くなっても構わないよ。
if節の代わりにwhether節やwh疑問詞節などが用いられる。
いずれもwillの代わりに現在時制を伴う。
否定文で用いられ易く、It matters little if … のような形にもなる。
- It doesn't matter how high his grades are.
訳)彼の成績がどれくらいかは問題ではない。
- It matters little what the assignments are.
訳)課題が何かなど大した問題じゃない。
It goes without saying that… …は言うまでもない
- It goes without saying that exercise is good for your health.
訳)運動が健康に良いことは言うまでもない。
主に文語で用いられる。
また、「そんなこと言われるまでもないよ」という意で
That goes without saying.の形でも使われる。
口語表現として、Needless to say を用いる。
大抵文頭に置かれる。
Needless to say, exercise is good for your health.
そのほかの表現として、
As we all know(文頭), There is no need to say so, but ... がある。
